COUNSELING

A specialized course under Humanities , Social Science and Education

About the Course – Counseling

Counselling courses provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to help guide people through the grief and loss associated with the end of life process, or to deal with family, relationship and other issues. Counselors deal with client’s concerns and difficulties. As a student of Counseling, you need to learn how to help people understand about themselves and to make changes in their lives. Counseling is a relationship-based process. A practitioner of counseling is required to build trust and understanding with clients. Counselors help people to:

  • Evaluate or understand themselves
  • Accept responsibility for their actions
  • Make good choices in their lives

Strong empathy, a desire to help people, and an interest in social justice are the virtues of a professional counselor. Counsellors assist people to make changes in thinking and decision-making. A counselor should build a therapeutic and trusting relationship with the clients. During your studies, you will be trained to offer talk-based therapy. The counselors must solve clients’ problems in a positive way by helping them to clarify issues, explore options, develop strategies and increase self-awareness.

The successful completion of this course leads to careers in counseling, family support, multicultural services, community work, school counseling, welfare services, palliative care, refugee services, youth care, etc. Obtaining a post-graduate degree in counseling provides enhanced employment opportunities within the counseling, health, education and human services sectors as well as private practice.
