Statement of Purpose

My name is Applicant Name, permanent resident of Biratnagar, Morang, Nepal. I was born on XXth October 19XX in Biratnagar. My parents have always been a great source of inspiration who has always taught me about humanity and service for it and to be dexterous for a better career and I have always dreamt of having an International degree. Therefore, I have made up my mind to study Masters of Accounting in the Institution’s name, Sydney, Australia.

As per my academic background, I have completed my School Leaving Certificate (SLC) from BalKalyanVidyaMandir (B.K.V.M), Biratnagar-12 with distinction marks of XX% in 20XX. This percentage gave me a huge discount when I joined Merryland Higher Secondary School, Biratnagar for my intermediate level education with major Mathematics under HSEB. I passed out my intermediate level scoring XX% in 20XX. After that, it was my interest in management that motivated me to graduate in Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA). I joined BBA with major Marketing in Management Campus, Biratnagar which is affiliated to Purwanchal University and completed the program securing XX CGPA in 20XX. It was a four years course consisting of eight semesters. During that time, as a partial fulfillment and requirement of the course, I got an opportunity to work as an intern at NMB Bank Limited, Biratnagar for a period of 4 months which helped me to have a closer insight on how the financial firms such as bank work. It has been almost three and a half years now that I was graduated. After my graduation, I decided to start my professional career before joining masters. I worked as a junior accountant in Niraula Machinery Traders, Biratnagar-11 for the period between 20XX/01/16 to 20XX/11/18. Moreover, I did 1-month job training in Spark Health Home, Kalimati, Kathmandu which is the head center of all the spark hospital branches. I have been working as a full-time accountant and front desk officer in Spark Naturopathy and Physiotherapy Hospital, Biratnagar-9 since 20XX/12/25. Initially, I was placed in the position of front desk officer. Later after performance evaluation, my post was upgraded to an accountant. I am given responsibilities like dealing with the visitors and patients, bookkeeping, maintaining income statements and balance sheets, calculation of tax, calculating the monthly salary of staff and its distribution. I also need to maintain a petty cash fund and regular income and expenditure in the voucher. As per the plan to continue my Master, I prepared for IELTS and I gave exam on 4th November, 20XX and scored overall band score of 7.0 with Listening 8.0, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 6.5

There are multifarious reasons why I have chosen Australia, which is one of the best and suitable countries for international students. Australia is currently the third most popular destination for international students after the USA and UK. One of the reasons for choosing Australia among other countries is mainly because of globally recognized universities. Almost all universities in Australia are government recognized which makes the students safe about their future and education. The Australian Government regulates the education system in order to maintain a high standard of education associated with the country. Students have a great number of choices of universities, as there are almost 43 universities, which provide qualitative, practical, and future-oriented education. The reason for not choosing US and UK is that in the US, to get into good universities, one needs to sit for competitive exams like GMAT for management stream which takes a lot of time and is quite difficult and in the UK; the master is of 1 year which isn’t globally recognized. According to the current scenario of the US and UK, it is not safe and secured for international students. Fee and living expenses are quite affordable in Australia as compared to that of the UK and the USA. One the other, I have thought of India too but owing similarity in Culture, tradition and even education pattern, I let the idea. As per the European countries, language is a great barrier. Apart from academic standards, Australia is a country having diverse cultures, favorable climate and naturally beautiful cities. Moreover, the most trustworthy part is that Australia has the provision of the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) which is a register of Australian education institutions that recruit enroll and teach overseas students. So, everything is legalized and secured. On top of that to specify the standards for educational qualifications in Australia, it has an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Australia follows the ESOS (Education Services for Overseas Student) Act 2000. The ESOS Framework ensures that students have access to tuition assurance (which acts like consumer protection). The ESOS framework includes an element like Tuition Protection Services (TPS) where the fees are safe and secured which I have also collected.

I had set my mind for post-graduation in professional accounting in Nepal. I searched for many universities in Nepal but I didn’t find my choices. Talking about my home country, there are also good universities but not all Nepalese Universities have international recognition. Universities of Nepal do not offer a wide range of courses. The available courses are not flexible and updated and they are taught with the same curriculum for many years.  The courses are Master in Business Administration and Master in Business Studies. Further, the educational system of Nepal lacks adequate human and material resources required for skill development. Though there is an emphasis on good theoretical learning needs, Nepal still lacks area and adequate resources for the application of theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. So, I did not choose Nepal for my Master’s degree. Most importantly, I am looking for international exposure and both theoretical and practical way of teaching and learning which I am not able to find in Nepal. We know for the fact that the old courses have to be changed with the arrival of new ones and technologies should be added every year. However, these changes are not quite practiced in Nepal. Even with the arrival of new editions of books, we still follow the old ones focusing on theoretical learning rather than practical which is one of the main cons of the education system here. Moreover, there is a limited number of seats with high competition throughout the country and the increasing political instability has led to strikes and hindrance to the education sector. Because of these reasons my thoughts of continuing further education in Nepal fade away.

After my research in different cities in Australia, I chose NSW Sydney as a destination for my further study. New South Wales is the largest state in Australia. Sydney is the oldest, biggest and most beautiful of all Australian cities, lies amid a seductive intermingling of land and sea. One of the world’s great icons, the Sydney Opera House is a Heritage Site. Sydney Harbor Bridge, The Rock and the Circular Quay are also the common attractions, Sydney Tower which is the city’s tallest building and one of its greatest landmarks as well. Beaches like Bondi, Milk, Freshwater, Cronulla, Lady Bay, Manly beach and many more are also the tourist attraction. A lifestyle that is hard to match as Sydney offers one of the highest standards of living in the world and yet is more affordable. International students receive a 40% discount on all public transport and buses within Sydney city center. It has the humid sub-tropical, shifting from mild and cold in winter to warm and hot in the summer, with no extreme seasonal difference as the weather is moderated by proximity to the ocean.

Before choosing Institution name, I undertook research on different universities like Institution name, Institution name, Institution name, Institution name etc. During the course of my research, I found these universities to be very expensive in comparison to Institution name. My reason for choosing the Masters of Accounting is that it is a qualification that equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to succeed in accounting and aid career progression to senior management level. A career in accounting provides challenging, rewarding and versatile opportunities in the current business environment. Increasingly, business is looking for people with superior analytical skills that accounting can provide. So, I think within two and a half or three years, I will be able to earn the amount which I will invest in my education. Therefore, it is certainly sure after the completion of my course I will be heading back to my home country Nepal.
