STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (NAB01BAS)
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for providing me the opportunity to pen down my SOP to study Master of Management for Engineering.
I am Applicant Name, born on D.O.B in Applicant Address. I am the youngest children of Parents Name. On Date, I got married to Spouse Name, daughter of Parents-in -law Name, permanent resident of Spouse Address. Talking about my wife academic qualification, she has completed PCL Nursing in the year of 2015 with first division, from Institute Name. This is affiliated by Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training (CTEVT). At present, she is working at Company Name, Location as a Staff Nurse since 18 December 2016 in Nephrology Ward.
My mother Mother Name is involved in a business. My mother-in-law, Mother-in-law Name runs a business named Company Name in which my mother is a partner. My brother name is Brother Name who is currently working as Operation Manager in Company Name. My sister in-law is working in Company Name as a senior supervisor. My brother-in-law, Brother-in-law Name is currently studying Bachelor of Environmental Science in University Name. I am writing to express my intention and motivation for applying to the Master of Management for Engineers in University Name.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
I have completed my School Leaving Certificate (S.L.C.) which is under government of Nepal Ministry of Education in year Year from School Name, Location with first division (Score%). From my childhood, I was keen to learn science and technology so that after completion of my SLC, I joined for technical subject of (civil engineering) which was 15-month course. But due to my family pressure I couldn’t complete that course though I was eager to complete the course. Then the following year I joined for intermediate with science faculty (keeping in my mind that any how I will complete civil engineering course in bachelor level). I completed my Higher Secondary Education securing second division (Score %) from College Name, Location in the year of Year. As I already mentioned that I was very keen to study civil engineering, this course is the gateway in construction field. I pursued my bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from one of the reputed university University Name, Location. I graduated my bachelor degree in civil engineering on Date securing first division (Score CGPA).
GAP CLARIFICATION & WORK EXPERIENCES
Four years of study in Civil Engineering I feel completely satisfied with my decision to choose engineering as my career option as it has revealed the most pragmatic and down to approach to tackling human problems to me. My decision to major in Civil Engineering is a direct result of my desire to contribute for the development of state of the infrastructure in my country.
After my bachelor degree, I work in Company Name as a Senior Site Engineer from Date to Date (Enclosed work experience letter). At first I was appointed as a trainee engineer, I had to go to the field most of the time as I was fresh engineer. It is essential to acquire the field knowledge. I did road survey as well as valuation in the field which was quite interesting for me because I was always keen demonstrate my knowledge in the field. I did survey of 12 K.M roads with my teammates in Dhading district and several property valuation work. After around 6 months I was appointed as a Senior Civil Engineer in Company Name. While working, I felt that technical skill is not sufficient to become successful. We need technical skill as well as management skill. So that I felt need of postgraduate qualification, I appeared IELTS on Date and scored overall X.X with individuals: All Band Score (Enclosed IELTS Score Card). I am applying to your University because of the reputation of your college. In addition, your splendid facilities are also a major attraction to me. In my experience as a student, I know for certain that good facilities can make difference in student’s life and learning experience. WHY NOT NEPAL?
Nepalese Education system lacks infrastructures which are must for students to develop their professional and practical skills. Australian education system provides more practical approach and infrastructures that help students to enhance their academic knowledge coupled with practical. In Nepal it is difficult to find such type of courses since only 3 Universities namely Tribhuwan University, Pokhara University and Purbanchal University offer engineering programs. We cannot find Master of Management for Engineers or MBA for Engineers. The courses available are not specific professional and lacks updated syllabus and practical approach of learning. Also, the universities offering these courses do not provide proper facilities of library, laboratory and instruments failing to meet teaching standard as international Universities. Therefore, I decided to pursue Masters of management for Engineers from CQU, Australia.
REASON TO CHOOSE AUSTRALIA AND NOT OTHER COUNTRIES
Australia is one of the renowned destinations for international students who seek for quality education in a pragmatic approach. Australia provides wide pool of globally recognized courses (about 22,000 courses in 1,100 institutions) for international students. Additionally, Australia being an English speaking nation offers no language barrier. Moreover, Australia provides post study work (PSW) which is an opportunity for international students to gain experience on study related field. Multicultural and harmonious environment in Australia is a key feature for diversified cultural international students. The lower rates of crimes, violence, racial disputes in Australia than any other countries make it a safe place to live. Australia, also ranked as top livable nation has 5 of the best cities in the world for students in terms of affordability and quality of life. Another important aspect of studying in Australia is ESOS Act 2000, which provides legislative framework to ensure that quality of programs and services provided to international students and their rights are protected. Tuition Protection Service (TPS) protects international students if education providers are unable to deliver the course of study in which the student is enrolled. In such case, TPS helps student either by refunding the unspent tuition fee or providing similar course at other education providers. These aforementioned factors helped me decide to pursue my postgraduate in Australia. Also, I am familiar with OSHC policy. In this policy, we are required by the Australian government to join overseas health care that is private health insurance scheme administered.
Before selecting Australia for my postgraduate studies, I left no space on researching about other alternative countries like U.K, U.S.A, Canada, Japan and other European nations. For consideration, I stayed focused on aspects like course of study, living environment, tuition expenses, climatic conditions, flexibility and Government policy for international students. With my analysis, I found that Australia is best among other countries.
- While researching about USA, the cost of living and tuition fee is very high and a need of GRE, GMAT Tests in addition to IELTS/TOEFL which requires time.
- Language barrier is the main reason for not choosing Japan and other Non-English speaking European countries.
- Although, Canada is good education provider for international students, it has certain geographical extremities and difficulties (more than 8 months’ snowfall in a year), which creates enormous problems in travelling and living.
- UK can be an alternative option but education providers in UK are expensive and policies for international student’s changes from time to time which is not favorable.
- The currency conversion rate of AUD (1 AUD- 77.27 NPR.) is comparatively very low as compared to other countries. Like 1 USD- 111.99 NPR., 1 Euro- 126.12 NPR., 1GBP- 141.59 NPR., 1 CAD- 83.85 NPR. As per the exchange rate fixed by Nepal Rastra Bank on 16 June 2019.

For my postgraduate program, I have visited different universities websites for fee structure, program structure, academic, IELTS requirement and location. I have visited different educational consultant regarding the University selection in Australia some of the university providing the same program are -University of Wollongong have master of Engineering management and the fee structure is AUD 36,768 location is Wollongong, -University of Technology Sydney offers Master of engineering (master of engineering management) course fee AUD 37,650 location is Sydney. In Melbourne, I found Master of engineering management but the fee structure is AUD 43,008 annually and the course duration is only one year, -Southern Cross University master of engineering management, fee is AUD 28,000 per annum. Looking all 11 universities which are providing the program master of engineering management, master of engineering management (master of business administration), master of management for engineers, I found Master of management for engineers in University Name is suitable for me looking at the fee structure, course structure, course duration and also University Name provided me 20% scholarship on the tuition fee.
I had been always curious for the world class institution that matches my field of interest. In Nepal, we cannot deny the fact that there are very few universities conducting master program with limited number of seats. My bedrock to select this course started from here itself, with my interest in construction field that actually can carry out various works in daily life that too in imaginary time. Also my seniors gave an opinion that this field is having multiple opportunities for further studies and for the career opportunities. Finally, I decided that this group is win-win situation. Master of management for engineers is specially designed course for engineering graduates build link between engineering, technology and management. This course is mainly focus in managing and optimizing the output of engineering process using tools of business management. This degree is popular among the engineering graduates who want to get a higher management role in their company’s hierarchy. I have a strong technical background and a mathematically literate which I have acquired from my Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering. I am an eligible candidate for this course with sound academic background and English test score. I believe that one can uplift their career to new height if s/he acquires both the technical and managerial knowledge in this contemporary world. As we know, Nepal is a geographically challenged nation and infrastructure development is the foremost target of the people as well as government of Nepal. COURSE STRUCTURE
Master of Management for Engineers is specifically designed for engineers who wish to undertake postgraduate management education. This course is divided into two major stream i.e. core unit and elective unit. Core unit consists of 12 different units of total 72 credit points, each unit with 6 credit points. In this course, I will study a range of management areas. In elective unit, there are 4 different unit of total 24 credit point. During the course, I will be placed in a company for a 10-week internship requiring 4 days per week working within the host company. I will have to undertake an applied research project based on a particular issue within host organization. I must undertake this unit in the final trimester of my course.

Two years of job experience will help me to get know how the organization works and the roles and responsibilities of engineers and how big projects are handled by Engineers in developed countries. I will also be able to know the time management system, also get some knowledge regarding the advanced technology used by the engineers in the developed countries. PSW will add an international value in my C.V. Graduating from the esteemed university with international degree and a professional experience from PSW, I want to devote myself filling the gaps in works and researches.
After completing the Master of Management for Engineers degree course, it will help me to develop knowledge and skills required for effective management and responsible leadership. This program is helpful for the student who likes to set up career in management field. This program helps engineers who want to seek professional development which helps them to open variety of employment opportunity. We can get full theoretical and practical knowledge regarding leadership, management governance, project management, system theory and strategic integration. Similarly, we will be qualified to manage engineering projects in industry and government. For the first few years, I would like to apply for the position of Assistant Project Manager in some reputed companies, or organizations to gain extra work experience and to know the real scenario. I expect to earn Nrs. 70,000 to Nrs. 80,000 per month in this stage. After some years of experience, I can expect growth in terms of position and salary with the help of my knowledge gained from Australia. I expect to earn more than Nrs. 1 Lakh per month if I could prove myself. I could be promoted to Senior Project Manager. I can find job vacancies in Nepal through online sites like kantipurjob.com, hamrojob.com, ramrojob.com and more. I would like to work in construction companies like Kalika Construction Pvt. Ltd., Lama Construction Pvt. Ltd., Sutra Construction and Designers, Green Design Nepal Pvt. Ltd., Global Impex International Pvt. Ltd. and more. In Nepal, more development works are taking place regarding construction. There are some multi-year projects which are considered as a pride of Nepal such as Gautam Buddha International Airport, Mid Hill Highway, Fast track Highway joining Tarai to Kathmandu, Cable car projects in different area of Nepal, Outer ring road project in Kathmandu Valley and more. This course gives more of a specialized skill set making a manager who takes decisions backed by sound numbers. This course is specially designed degree for the engineering graduates to build the link between engineering, technology and management.
Incentives to Return Home country Nepal: –
I have spent my childhood in my own hometown which is really beautiful. I have celebrated different festivals with my family. I cannot imagine my life without my childhood memories, my friends, families, my culture and tradition. So after completion of this program I will get back to my home country Nepal. My family has fixed assets and properties which I need to take care. In Nepalese culture and tradition to look after the parents and property is the responsibility of the sons so being a good son I will take care of my family and properties of my family. I have responsibilities towards my family. My main intention for entering Australia is to get the international degree which makes my future bright. Australian degrees have high value in Nepal. I can learn the time management system, techniques and plans used by the developed countries.
VISA CONDITIONS
I am aware of the obligation of a student visa under subclass 500, which are as:
- I must maintain 80% attendance throughout the course.
- I must maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance (OSHC) during my stay in Australia.
- I must not work more than 20 hours per week.
- I must inform College/University within a week for my change of residence or contact details.
- I must not involve in activities that are disruptive or threaten the Australian Culture during my stay.
