EARTH SCIENCE

A specialized course under Science Stream / Discipline

About the Course – Earth Science

Earth science is a multidisciplinary science that combines chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics equipment to understand earth processes, apprehend its past and predict its future. Earth scientists work to monitor changes in the Earth’s surroundings and advocate solutions to problems. They find out about natural hazards to stop loss of life and decrease property damage.

Earth scientists play key roles in the search for fuels and minerals. Climate change, earthquakes, and geothermal electricity are just a few of the problems that require expertise of earth science. Earth science consists of the normal fields of geology, physical geography, and oceanography/ hydrology. Geology describes the rocky components of the Earth’s crust (or lithosphere) and its development. Physical geography, which research the Earth’s surface, consists of geomorphology, soil science, and geoscience. The marine and freshwater parts of the Earth outline the fields of oceanography and hydrology.

Career Prospect & Career Opportunity

Earth scientists are in excessive demand in the energy sector (oil, gas, coal, geothermal) and exploration and mining industries. Many earth scientists locate employment in environmental consulting corporations tackling geotechnical, groundwater contamination, natural risks or climate change issues. Employment Opportunity

Students who graduate with earth sciences are qualified for employment in a huge range of careers, such as resource management, geotechnical and environmental consulting, urban and rural planning, petroleum and mining industries, state and federal companies and as laboratory technicians, professional geologists, geophysicists, or geochemists. A degree in Earth or Environmental Science equips students with capabilities in critical thinking and problem-solving, quantitative analysis, oral and written communication and teamwork.
