About the Course – Biochemistry

Biochemistry is a branch of science that studies the chemical processes in a living organism. It analyses the molecular level in a living organism and aims to get a better understanding of the chemical reactions that occur inside living organisms.

Biochemistry applies chemistry to study biological processes at the cellular and molecular level. It emerged as a distinct discipline around the beginning of the 20th century when scientists combined chemistry, physiology, and biology to investigate the chemistry of living systems.

Biochemistry is both a life science and a chemical science as it explores the chemistry of living organisms and the molecular basis for the changes occurring in living cells. Biochemistry helps in providing explanations for the causes of several diseases in humans, animals, and plants. Applying the laws and methods of chemistry, physics, molecular biology, and immunology, it studies the structure and behavior of the complex molecules found in organisms and dives deep into how these molecules interact to form cells, tissues, and whole organisms.
