RADIOGRAPHY

A specialized course under Health Stream

About the Course – Radiography

Radiography is about the use of x-rays. Students with a degree in Radiography, also known as Radiology, usually go on to work in the health care field as radiographers or radiological technicians. Radiology programs require students to have studied biology and maths before being accepted in a Radiography program. Radiographers use different kinds of radiation to diagnose, or treat, ill or injured patients.

There are two kinds of radiography. Diagnostic radiography: is the use of radiation to investigate a patient’s illness or injury. Therapeutic radiography: is the use of various kinds of radiation to treat an illness or injury.

Radiographers are not only technicians, they can also play a huge part in a patient’s treatment and recovery. Working with the patients daily to administer their required treatment help the Radiographers to build up extensive personal relationships with patients. They often use x-rays (and other ionising radiation) to treat diseases like cancer and tumours.

Listed here are some of the principal objectives of the course.

  • To develop and carry out management plans related to diagnostic radiology procedures.
  • To understand the radiology procedures that the patient will undergo.
  • To understand basic digital and conventional x-ray physics.
  • To learn about contrast administration for computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (indications, dose, timing).
  • To learn about risk factors for and management of contrast allergies.
  • Understand basic radiographic patterns.

Career Prospect

Pursuing a career as radiology technologist is a smart choice. A radiographer produces radiography of patients with the help of X-ray to find the exact medical condition of the patient. Besides X-ray, a radiographer also may use CT scans, ultrasounds and MRI for producing radiography. The demand of qualified, skilled and professional radiology technologists in hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices is increasing. After graduating in Radiology, there are various career options available, such as Radiologist (MD), Radiology Technologists/ Radiographer, Radiology Technicians, Ultrasound Technician/ Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, MRI Technician, CT Tech/ CAT Scan Technologist/ CT Scan Technologist.
