About the Course –Criminology

Criminology is the study of crime. It is concerned with the people who commit crime, the reasons that lead them to commit crimes, their impact on society and ways of preventing and controlling crime. The goal of criminology is to identify and examine the root causes of criminal behavior and to develop effective ways of controlling them. Graduates of Criminology often become detectives or federal law enforcement investigators. Criminology attempts to explain crimes within a societal context. Criminology uses three distinct theories that attempt to explain why criminals do what they do. These theories help to explain how a society responds to crime, both in terms of preventing future incidences of crime and responding to criminals who commit those crimes. There can be internal and external factors behind a crime, which is also examined by those theories.
